How To Make Your Home Office More Inspiring

A home office can be one of the most important rooms in a house, but it often gets overlooked. As a place of work, home offices are often cold, bland and uninspired. Here’ are a few tips on how to make a more creative, inspiring and productive space.

  1. Lighting

Getting adequate lighting is essential to getting inspired. Positioning your desk in front of a window would be perfect as it maximised natural light to your workspace. Check out this beautiful example below:

Sitting near an open window with plenty of natural light is ideal, but not always possible. In this case, you’ll need to look into creating good lighting conditions. Good lighting increases productivity and energy and can boost your mood. A quick answer would be to use a desk lamp to give light directly to your workspace:

To give better lighting, use ambient lighting to give an even amount of light across the room. It’s a good idea to use a pendant in the centre to do this:

  2. Planning in style

There’s nothing better than having an organised schedule, so why not use your calendar as wall decor? This is such a great idea, it is practical and really helps with organisation – and it looks good too! With this statement piece you’ll never miss a deadline.

  3. Inspirational artwork

A Gallery wall is a popular home decor element in living rooms and hallways, but why not add it to your home office? Gallery walls are a great way to add interest and personality to your workspace.

Inspirational quotes might seem cliche, but they really do work! A popular home office trend at the moment is to display inspirational images on a clipboard. It is a simple but quirky idea that is really effective.

To make your space a touch more personal, put up some pictures of your loved ones so you always feel supported, even if you’re working in your office alone.

  4. Mood/Vision boards

Having a slow day? Lacking motivation? Why not make a vision board to keep you on track with your goals? A vision board is a collage of words and images that make you feel positive and empowered.

Interiors blogger Sarah Akwisombe created a blog post about how to create a vision board that works. She suggests using words/pictures from magazines. Check out her video here: http://www.sarahakwisombe.com/blog/how-to-make-a-vision-board?rq=vision%20board

  5. Go Green!

A pretty pot plant might make a clinical work space feel more personal, but new research has revealed that houseplants do so much more as they can help you to be more creative and productive. The green hues of humble houseplants have been also proven to aid concentration and enhance your mood.

House plants work particularly well in Scandi inspired offices. Take a look at some inspo below:

  6. Get some cool stationery

If you love stationery as much as I do, you’ll know that it’s a must for an office desk. Having the right stationery can provide you with the inspiration you need to get a task done. Plus, pretty stationary can give your desk a perfect instagram aesthetic.
