This year, we will be embracing soft curves with rounded pill-like shapes set to dominate interiors. The Lozenge shape shares similarities with the archway, which was a popular shape within Architecture and product design in 2018. The Deco-inspired curved furniture will continue to take over in 2019, with a much more modern look. Scroll down to see some examples of how the lozenge shape can be worked into your interior.
One insta-worthy example is the Breadway Bakery in Odessa, Ukraine. Designed by architects Lera Brumina and Artem Trigubchak, the bakery features a soft colour palette inspired by the stylised film sets of Wes Anderson. The repetitive lozenge shapes used in the upholstery give the space a fun, energetic feel. Obviously, this look would be hard to recreate in your home, but you can certainly take inspiration from it. For example, you could look for an accent chair with the pill shapes back.
Another awesome example can be found in 2LG’s kitchen. If you are aware of the work of 2LG studio, you know they do not shy away from bold colour and stand out silhouettes. Their kitchen features a green lozenge shaped dining table with curved cabinets in the same colour.
There is a huge range of products on the market now that feature this playful shape. Curved tables and rounded back chairs are a chic way to bring the lozenge trend into your home. Although the curves mean the furniture can be hard to put in front of a wall, the modern look you will get from lozenge-shaped pieces will be worth it.
Take a look at this beautiful tiered bookshelf from West Elm. A sophisticated way to display your favourite reads, this bookshelf takes the shelfie to the next level. Its pill-shaped shelves in contrasting shades give it a contemporary edge.
If a shelving unit is too big for you, why not look for a lozenged shapes accessory instead? A mirror might be a good starting point. If it works for you, you can go bigger. If not, you can keep it toned down.
The mirror in the picture below looks so elegant yet it is so simple. If you have a spare wall in your home, this mirror would be a great focal point.
I will definitely be embracing pill-shaped items into my home this year. I think the shape is simple but sophisticated and can really help to add some interest into your scheme.

I could definitely see it working in some areas of our home. We live in an older home, plaster walls with the rounded archway between some of the rooms so it would accent those architectural highlights nicely!

I’m not sure about the diner, with all the chairs shaped that way. I think it might be the colour that’s putting me off. But I love all the home decor, the tables and cabinets etc which are the oval shape!

I love this shape! We have quite low ceilings in our home so I would imagine it would add some depth to the room if used vertically. I love the mirror – this would look amazing in a narrow hallway! xxx
