Unique Nursery Ideas for New Parents

Your baby will be one of a kind – their nursery should be, too. I have some unique nursery ideas to get you started.

Decorating a child’s bedroom opens up a whole new world of exciting design possibilities, even in the smallest of spaces. It’s the perfect excuse to be as bold, brave or magical as you want. Whether it’s a girls’ room nursery or a boys’ bedroom nursery (or even a unisex nursery if you don’t know what you are having), there are plenty of unique and beautiful ideas.

To celebrate the birth of my little cousin Harry on earlier this month, I’ve put together a guide on how you can create a variety of looks in your new arrival’s room.

Adventure

Get the nursery ready for your future explorer. This nursery theme lends itself to lots of natural woods, animal motifs and a monochromatic palette. A teepee is a perfect addition to this room as it creates a play den for your little one as they grow up. Whether it be used for a teddy bears’ picnic, a reading nook or a pillow-filled den for your son and his friends, this tipi by Wildfire makes the perfect addition to any child’s bedroom.

Botanical

The botanical trend has been popular in the interior design world for years now, so why not incorporate the beautiful shades of green and natural elements into your baby’s nursery. This trend works perfectly with cane rattan furniture, which is everywhere at the moment.

Circus

Playful and full of energy, (most) children love the circus. So, why not prepare a fun, colourful environment for your baby to enjoy. Include plenty of animal motifs and pops of colour through artwork, cushions and decorative pieces.  You don’t have to go over the top with this scheme, feel free to  choose a more muted colour palette for a more calm and sophisticated feel.

Clouds and Stars

Your baby might not be ready to explore the universe as soon as they’re born, but a sky themed nursery will create a peaceful and calming environment for them. Not only are these sky-themed decorations adorable, many of them are also designed to help your baby nod off to sleep.

Marine Life

Another idea is to create a calming marine themed bedroom for your little one to relax in. Think shades of blue, cosy textures and plenty of natural woods. Whale-inspired wall art or baby shark toys will help to lend a playful feel to the room. Check out the awesome ceiling light in my product board below, it will definitely catch your baby’s eye and inspire their imagination.

While this theme may lend itself better to a boys room, you can turn it into a girly space by adding fairy lights and hints of softer colours.

All the designs above can be easily adapted to suit your child as they get older. Simply swap out the cots for beds and update your accessories to suit your child’s age. Your baby will grow up faster than you think and you don’t want to worry about a redesign when there are first steps and quality time to consider!

Which design above is your favourite? Let me know in the comments below.
