It’s that time of year when Pantone and Dulux reveal their 2018 paint colours! This year, they couldn’t be more different.
Dulux: Heart Wood
2018 marks the 15th year of Dulux’s Colour Futures feature – the trend research where they identify one hero paint colour that is relevant in homes around the world. This year’s colour is Heart Wood, a beautiful warm pink chosen by the colour specialists at Dulux Global Aesthetic Centre.

Calm or cosy, energetic or relaxed – the feel of your home can be transformed by Heart Wood in different ways. Dive deeper into Dulux Colour of the Year’s four complementary colour palettes for 2018 to find the mood and style that suits you.
Here’s a few designs using Heart Wood that I have done:

Pantone: Ultra Violet
A dramatically provocative and thoughtful purple shade, Ultra Violet communicates originality, ingenuity, and visionary thinking that points us toward the future.

Enigmatic purples have long been symbolic of counterculture, unconventionality, and artistic brilliance. Musical icons Prince, David Bowie, and Jimi Hendrix brought shades of Ultra Violet to the forefront of western pop culture as personal expressions of individuality. Nuanced and full of emotion, the depth of Ultra Violet symbolises experimentation and non-conformity, spurring individuals to imagine their unique mark on the world, and push boundaries through creative outlets.
Here are a few Visuals I have created that use Ultra Violet:

As you may know, I used this purple in my room set for Grand Designs Live in October this year. I must be a trend setter!

Overall, I think Dulux’s Heart Wood is far more versatile and a bit easier on the eye. The dusty pink tone to it adds a soft feminine touch. Ultra Violet is a real statement colour- it’s certainly not for everyone! There is a lot of controversy in the Interior Design community about Pantone’s colour choices over the past few years (especially with Greenery last year!) and it hasn’t changed this year. It takes a lot of confidence to pull off an Ultra Violet wall!
Which is your favourite? Let me know in the comments!

I’ve never heard of heart wood before but I LOVE this! Need this in my apartment.
I agree, it’s a really beautiful shade.
These colors are both beautiful! I don’t think my own decor style is bold enough for Ultraviolet but I LOVE the heartwood color!!
I’m glad you liked the post. Ultra Violet takes a lot of courage! I love Heart Wood too.
I quite like the Heartwood one, though my DS biz used the Pantone one for yearly products.
