As the leaves begin to fall and the nights start drawing in, it’s time to update your home for Autumn. However, a shift in season doesn’t have to mean a full-on interior makeover. Whether it’s introducing new colours across your soft furnishings and accessories or bringing in some seasonal elements, simple changes can make all the difference.
In this post, I will tell you 4 ways to update your home for Autumn (or Fall for my lovely American readers) and curate a list of shoppable products for you to use in your home.
1. Bring outdoor seasonal elements inside
Incorporating the color palettes each season brings into your styling is a great way to make your home feel refreshed throughout the year. In autumn, look to the deep, warm hues of the leaves as inspiration. It’s fun to bring in some autumn-inspired foliage and natural materials like rattan and wood to mirror the changing colors outside. You don’t need to go over the top with this idea, a small amount can make a huge difference to your home.

2. Add cosy textures
I don’t know about you, but I’m all about cosying up with layers, textures, and accents that create a feeling of comfort this Autumn. Instead of the lighter-weight linens that are popular in the summer, now is the time to turn to chunky textiles to add warmth. It’s also a good idea to add a throw (or an extra throw) to the end of your bed for comfort. Or maybe switch up your sofa cushions and add a cosy blanket to an accent chair. I have been making good use of my teal throw over the last few chilly evenings!
Another suggestion would be to add/ upgrade your rugs. For the Autumn, I would suggest using higher pile rugs as they will make your home feel warmer. You don’t need to use a typical shaggy rug though, there are lots of pretty textured rugs on the market now.

3. Add ambience with candles and lighting
As we approach cooler, darker months, good lighting and ambience is even more important in our homes. Consider adding levels to your lighting layers with sconces, floor lamps, and table lamps. Layering your lighting is important as you can turn lights on and off depending on the mood you are looking to create. For a more cosy evening, turn the ceiling light off and turn on a floor or table lamp instead.
Candles can be used throughout the home to create different atmospheres through light and scent. Changing the scents you use with the seasons can be a great way to prepare your home for Autumn. Consider replacing your floral scents with spice-scented candles instead.

4. Create an Autumnal palette with accessories
My next top tip is to add warm Autumn colour tones throughout your home. This can be done with accessories, wall art or a lick of paint if you’re looking for a complete refresh. I love adding decor materials that resemble what we see outside with every season, and in the Autumn, it’s all about incorporating natural materials with deep textural elements. Incorporate decor pieces in brass, burnt oranges, reds, and honey yellows to reflect the changing colours outside. Although the temperatures are dropping outside, warming colours like oranges and yellows can help to evoke warmth and comfort. If you’re brave, you can opt for a orange toned wallpaper. Ever Wallpaper have a huge range to offer.
You can have a lot of fun with this tip! But consider how much of a change you want to bring into the colours of your home.
