Introducing Dulux’s Colour of the year: Denim Drift

It is a subtle greyed out shade of blue that goes with just about everything.

Blue is the colour of our every day. The sky above us. The clothes we wear. And as of this year, the colour to paint on our walls. It is truly adaptable, fitting into all life and interior styles, making it the perfect choice for reflecting a new perspective for 2017.

To make it relevant for your home, the Dulux team chose a blue that works as well in a kitchen as it does in a bedroom.

‘As the world changes, people are taking a fresh look at the everyday elements of life – our family and friends, work, connecting with nature, and the pleasure of experiences. We are incredibly excited that ‘Life in a new Light’ is the driving influence for 2017 and is seen in all our colour trends for the year.’

Louise Tod, Dulux Global Aesthetics Centre

To add warmth to the cool blue, don’t be afraid to add gold accents. For example, place a gold floor lamp in front of the wall or hang artwork in a gold frame.

Alongside Denim Drift, Dulux has developed a tonal colour palette specifically to complement the Colour of the Year. This palette features a spectrum of blues and neutrals. They look absolutely stunning together and when used in an interior they would really help to add depth and movement to a space.

Here is a product board, displaying how I can picture Denim Drift working within a bedroom:

I have stuck to a palette of soft blues and neutrals to create a calm, relaxing space.

Or, why not go bold? Take a look at my board below to see how to incorporate darker blues and gold accents to make a real statement:
