Hi everyone!
For my latest Uni project, I had the opportunity to work with Blendworth in order to create a collection of fabrics and wallcoverings based around the theme of ‘heritage’. I then had to present the designs within a country hotel interior. Blendworth pride themselves on creating sophisticated designs with a clear link to British heritage. They are currently collaborating with Wedgwood, a luxury British ceramics company, to create a series of fabrics and wall coverings (and I got a chance to see their Spring 2016 collection before it is released!)
“Heritage can refer to practices or characteristics that are passed down through the years, from one generation to the next.”
When I first started thinking about ‘heritage’, I stumbled upon the definition above. One of the first ideas I had was classic British literature, as the greatest novels have been passed down from one generation to the next. I decided to focus on ‘Alice’s Adventures in Wonderland’ for my designs.
I decided to use the Mad Hatter’s tea party, the White Rabbit & pocket watch and the Caterpillar and toadstools as inspiration for my motifs. My colour palette comes from Urban Decay’s Alice in Wonderland themed eye shadow palette which features rich reds, purples, and oranges on a neutral background.
Below, I have attached all five of my fabric and wall coverings alongside a few visualisations of my designs within the country hotel lounge and hallway. These visualisations were all created using Vectorworks and SketchUp.
Enjoy and let me know what you think!
