Throwback to my first year of uni…
Linden homes approached my lecturer about a new development of houses in Waterlooville, Hampshire. We were asked to redesign a living/dining room and master bedroom for the show home, based on an artist of our choice (well, 2 artists, but I’ll save the rest for part 2!)
I stumbled upon contemporary textile and wall paper designer Jen Moules, who creates abstract illustrations based upon the natural world. Check out some of her work below:

Not only were we asked to create a cohesive interior, but also design textiles and wallpapers for the scheme too. To echo Moules’ work, I focused my designs on elements of nature; pumpkins and peacock feathers. I also made sure to use my go to colours, teal and coral.
I played around with the size of the motifs to create an ombre effect, which I thought would look cool at the top of the curtains.
Next came the visualisations… I took to Vectorworks to start building the floor plans and 3D space. One problem with this show home is the lack of floorspace especially in the living/dining space as it was a long, thin room. The rooms also had very high ceilings, 3.5m high with huge curved windows which meant a lot of natural light, very handy!
The circular, abstract shapes used within the chairs, table and lights are used to echo the free lines of the illustrations.
Here’s how the Living/Dining Space turned out:
And on to the master bedroom:
This was a great first year project, it really threw me into working with industry (and taught me a lot about budgeting too!)
Stay tuned for part 2…
